Docs
A Doc is a report, plan or write-up that an agent builds for you in a block beside its pane. You watch it fill in: the outline comes first, with every section’s heading and what it will say, then each section is written in order. Anyone the session is shared with watches it too. Docs are kept on the machine, so closing a Doc’s pane doesn’t lose it.
Asking an agent for one
Section titled “Asking an agent for one”Ask any agent that has Arugula’s MCP server for a Doc: “write up
what you found as a Doc”, a plan, a comparison. It uses the doc tool:
newmakes the Doc with its outline, so you see every section at once;fillwrites a section;listandopenfind an earlier Doc and open it again, to read or to go on with. A Doc that’s already open is that block, not a second one.
Agents write a Doc only through the tool, never its files by hand. The first time a Doc opens in a tab, a hint on its pane says it’s kept on the Docs page, with Go to Docs.
The Docs page
Section titled “The Docs page”Docs on the rail opens the machine’s Docs: every Doc its agents wrote, newest first, with when it was last updated and who made it. A Doc open in a pane now is marked open, and a shared one shared.
- Open shows the Doc in the current session, or brings it forward if it’s already open.
- Delete removes it and its pictures for good. A shared Doc is unshared first, so its link stops working.
- With no Docs yet, the page offers Start an agent.
The Docs page is the machine owner’s. On a phone, it’s Docs in the sheet (☰).
Sharing a Doc
Section titled “Sharing a Doc”The machine’s owner can share a Doc with a link, from the Doc’s pane menu (or the phone’s sheet while the Doc is the active pane). The machine has to be joined to Arugula control.
- Share link… makes the link and copies it. Anyone with it can open the Doc, with no account, as it was when you shared it. The Doc’s bar then says shared, with ↗ to open the link.
- Update shared copy changes what the link shows to the Doc as it is now.
- Copy link copies it again.
- Unshare stops the link at once. Sharing again makes a new link; the old one never comes back.
The machine encrypts the Doc before it goes to control, and the key is only in the link, so control stores it without being able to read it. Each account can have up to 100 shared links and 200 MB of shared Docs.
Shared Docs… in the account menu lists every Doc your account has shared, from every machine, with its size, when it was shared and updated, and roughly how often it was opened. From there, Open shows the Doc on its machine, Copy link asks the machine for the link while it’s online, and Unshare stops it.
Docs in a project
Section titled “Docs in a project”A project on the platform page has Docs of its own, written by its team, beside its issues. A machine’s own Docs stay on that machine.
