Bring a teammate into a session

Bring someone into the session you’re working in, so they can watch, answer your agent or type with you, without giving them the rest of the machine. Both of you need an Arugula control account.

  1. Open the share picker. As the machine’s owner, choose Share session… in the session menu, Share in the top bar, or Share › Share this pane… in a pane’s menu to open at that pane. On a phone, it’s Share session… in the sheet.

  2. Pick them and a role. Enter their Arugula control username. Someone who watches sees the panes; someone who drives may also type, answer agents and send follow-ups. Turn on with history to show what was there before. The first time, check that their device fingerprint matches what they see.

  3. Tell them where to look. Add a note and choose Share and notify. They get a notification, “you brought you into session: note”, which opens at the session’s first pane. The dialog says whether it reached them. Someone outside your teams accepts first.

From a terminal, the same thing:

    Terminal window
arugula invite sam --role editor --note "the flaky test"
  4. Take turns at the keyboard. One person drives a pane at a time. From the pane menu’s Share, they choose Ask for control, or you choose Pair mode (everyone types) to let you both type at once. On your own (not a team’s) machine, they also need your go-ahead to type: they choose Ask the owner to let me drive it, and you pick how long.

  5. Follow each other. The top bar shows everyone in the session; click someone to follow what they’re looking at.

  6. When you’re done, open the share picker again and choose Remove beside them. Their view closes within a second.

For a whole team, share with everyone in {team} instead, or put the machine in the team: see Teams. An agent can ask you to bring someone in, but only you can send it: see When an agent wants to bring someone in.
