Hand an issue to an agent
An issue already says what’s wrong, so it’s a ready-made prompt. Arugula starts an agent with the issue as its prompt, on a branch of its own, and you answer it and send the pull request when it’s ready.
There are two ways, depending on where the agent should run.
On a Cloud workspace
Section titled “On a Cloud workspace”For a project’s native issue. The agent runs on one of the project’s Cloud workspaces, so it keeps going with your computer off. You need to be an owner or editor of the project, and the project needs a Cloud workspace with the repository (see Run your agent in the cloud).
- Open the issue on the platform page: Issues, then the issue.
- Choose Agent on this. (Writing
@arugulain the issue’s comments does the same, with your words added.) - A card appears in the issue’s comments: queued, then working. It shows the branch, the tool the agent is running and its last turn.
- When the agent asks something, the card says needs input: answer it on the card. Any owner or editor can.
- Reply in the comments to give it its next instruction. Each reply starts another turn.
- Once a turn has pushed its branch, choose PR on the card. It opens a draft of the pull request, filled in from the repository’s template and what the agent did. Edit it and send it: only you can.
On your own machine
Section titled “On your own machine”For a GitHub issue, or a native issue you’d rather work on locally. The agent runs in a new worktree of your clone, on this machine.
- Open the issue beside your terminal: Issue in + Pane, Open issue…
in a pane’s Open beside menu, or
arugula issue OWNER/REPO#42. For a native issue, runarugula issue agent '#12'in your clone and skip to step 3. - Choose Agent on this on the issue block (With instructions… adds your own words). See Issues.
- The issue moves to a tab of its own, and Claude Code starts beside it on a new branch, with nothing allowed ahead of time.
- Each thing it wants to do comes to you as a card first: allow or deny it there, from the swarm, or from your phone (see Answering from anywhere).
- When it opens a pull request from that branch, the pull request opens beside it. Review it there.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Native issues: a project’s own issues.
- Pull requests and issues: GitHub’s, as blocks.
- Watch your agent from your phone: answer its cards away from your desk.
